Success in business requires training and discipline and hard work. But if you're not frightened by these things, the opportunities are just as great today as they ever were.  David Rockefeller (1915 - )

Anyone thinking of giving up work and training for a new career may feel they should put their plans on hold. With so much uncertainty in the jobs market, it is a difficult choice to make. However, it is possible to carry on working and earning a wage whilst gaining new skills by signing-up to distance learning.

Distance learning or home study allows people to choose from a huge range of courses that they can study at home and at a pace that suits.

Those who work during the day can study in the evenings or at weekends, while people who work shifts can fit study around their work rota.

Every every subject is now available as a distance learning option, from computer repairs and gardening to book-keeping and accounting. But choosing the right course that suits your interests is vital. Course that are too basic (or advanced) can turn out to be a waste of money.

Some companies provide unlimited access to tutors via telephone, email or interactive on-line contact. Others restrict this to comments by tutors when they mark submitted work.

Good quality training providers will offer advice on your suitability for the course based on your education and aptitude for the work you hope to undertake when the course is completed. You should also find out whether the qualifications you receive upon completion will stand you in good stead in the jobs market. You should also ask if you can contact a few people who have completed the course. A reputable company will have no hesitation in putting you in touch with some of their successful candidates.
