Isn’t that we all dream of?

 

Oh if it were only that easy, everyone would do it.

 

The truth is, given the choice, most people would plump for a steady job, a steady income and a gold watch at the end of it. But in these difficult times, more and more people will have to decide  if they should go on the ‘dole’, while they look for new employment, or perhaps follow their dream and start up their own business.

 

There are of course those people who are natural entrepreneurs (An entrepreneur is an independent business individual.), who want to strike out on their own. Characters  like Richard Branson, Sir Alan Sugar and James Dyson, plus the thousands of unsung heroes, like the window cleaner who has his own round, the mobile mechanic who looks after your car and even the paper boy!

 

So where to start?

 

There are many and various routes and a lot will depend on what sort of capital you have. You could buy into a franchise. Buy a corner shop or small business or post office as a going concern, or invest in some property as a landlord. Naturally these routes all require a substantial amount of start-up capital. Perhaps you could use your redundancy money or savings.

 

The other option is to turn a hobby into a business.

 

Look at what you really ENJOY doing now. Would you do it even if you weren’t paid to do it? Now can you turn this into a business?  Try taking a psychometric test and not just for fun. Read more
